We Believe in Ability
GallopNYC uses therapeutic horsemanship to help riders in NYC with disabilities walk, talk and learn,
inspiring them to live their lives as fully, independently and productively as possible.
The therapeutic horsemanship programs at GallopNYC provide measurable benefits for people with developmental, emotional, social and physical disabilities. Through weekly riding sessions with PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors, we teach new skills, inspiring each rider to live life as fully, productively and independently as possible.
Financial support is critical to the well-being of GallopNYC riders and our life-changing programs. Your contribution means a child can develop improved fine motor control, become more empathic and engaged, develop verbal skills and gain core strength. It means that an adult can master independent tasks, seniors can overcome isolation, finding community and it means that veterans can have the tools to manage PTSD and carry the ability to relax over to their families and jobs.
Volunteers enjoy the personal satisfaction of helping children and adults with developmental, emotional, social and physical challenges, all while working with and being around horses, one of nature’s most empathetic animals. Group and corporate volunteer opportunities are also available.
From Our Community
“At GallopNYC, I learned that horses tell us how they feel with their ears. Also, we have to pet them from the front, not from behind them. I like riding all horses, but my favorite horse to ride is Eli.”
— Brendan, 16 years
“Therapeutic riding directly improves Brendan’s speech skills and helps him socialize more. In the time we’ve been attending Pony Club, we’ve seen Brendan develop friendships with the other riders. The impact this program has had on our son’s development is so powerful; it is difficult to put into words.”
