Introducing HERD - Harnessing Empowerment and Realizing Dreams
The GallopNYC Job Skills program has evolved into something truly extraordinary - HERD, Harnessing Empowerment and Realizing Dreams! With a powerful new acronym that encapsulates our mission and approach, HERD represents the heart and soul of our transformative workforce development initiative.
HERD is not just a word; it's a symbol of unity and strength, much like a cohesive herd of horses. At HERD, we utilize horsemanship and horses to empower individuals with disabilities, offering them a safe and supportive space to transition into the workforce.
H - Horsemanship: Through our unique horsemanship program, participants forge a special bond with these majestic creatures. This connection goes beyond riding; it nurtures empathy, communication, and trust – qualities that transcend the barn and become valuable leadership assets in any professional setting.
E - Employability: HERD focuses on preparing participants for the workforce, equipping them with the employability skills needed to thrive in various industries. From hard technical skills to soft interpersonal abilities, our participants are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
R - Resilience: Like the horses they work with, HERD participants embody resilience and adaptability. They learn to overcome obstacles, develop a can-do attitude, and face life's challenges head-on, ready to take on whatever comes their way. We understand that individualized support is vital for our participants to flourish. That's why we pair each of them with dedicated job coaches who serve as mentors throughout their working shifts. These compassionate colleagues not only provide invaluable guidance but also champion the unique strengths of each participant, ensuring their growth and progress are always at the forefront.
D - Diversity: At HERD, we embrace the beauty of diversity in all its forms. Each individual brings their unique strengths and talents, creating a tapestry of skills that enrich our program and strengthen our organization as a whole. Our inclusive environment fosters a sense of belonging and support, where every participant is a valued member of GallopNYC’s HERD.
We prioritize quality over quantity. With approximately 10 participants and 5 coaches engaged in regular, immersive programming, we ensure that each individual receives the attention and support they deserve. As strong believers in the value of one's contributions, we compensate all participants and job coaches, recognizing their dedication and hard work. Supporting HERD empowers people with disabilities to realize their dreams. Together, we create a world where participants can flourish like a harmonious herd, united in purpose and determined to achieve their aspirations.
