Volunteer FAQs

No. We train you when you arrive, and you will always work alongside experienced volunteers and staff.

Most shifts run about 4 hours, but it varies depending on the day. You choose shifts that fit your schedule from the calendar.

Both work. Some volunteers come weekly; others come when they can. Any time you give makes a difference, but we do ask that you commit to the whole duration of the shift you sign up for.

16, or 13-15 with instructor permission. Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign their waiver.

Closed-toe shoes. Sturdy boots are ideal, but sneakers will do. No sandals, crocs, uggs, or flats. Long pants, and weather-appropriate layers as well.

Yes. Each person just needs to create their own volunteer account and complete orientation.

Yes. You can track and report your hours through your volunteer account, and we can verify them for school, court, or employer programs.

Please cancel through the volunteer calendar and send a text to our SMS line at 646-762-7999. Please contact us as early as you can, so we can arrange coverage. We ask that volunteers give us at least 48+ hours for a cancellation notice. Our riders count on having enough volunteers for every lesson.

Your first visit is friendly and low-pressure. A site supervisor will greet you, introduce you to the team, and pair you with experienced volunteers so you never have to figure things out alone. You will meet the horses, learn the basics of the role, and jump in. Most volunteers tell us the first shift goes by faster than they expected, and that they leave wanting to come back.
