Recreational Riding Instructor

  • Position Overview
    Bring professionalism and high quality teaching to GallopNYC riders by offering structured, well planned, individualized horsemanship lessons.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan and teach recreational horseback riding and horsemanship lessons on schedule as agreed with Program Director and Instructor Manager

    • Consult with rider, parents and/or teachers to develop rider goals

    • Support horse selection and basic horse care needs

    • Maintain appropriate relations with riders, GallopNYC staff and volunteers

    • Timely and correctly complete all administrative work, including weekly lesson plans and end of season goal reports

    • Report concerns and occurrences to Instructor Manager

    • Attend mandatory meetings regularly

    • Support during GallopNYC programmatic and fundraising events

    • Additional tasks as needed

    Qualifications

    • Horse Experience and excellent riding skills

    • CHA certification preferred

    • Teaching experience preferred

PATH Intl. Certified Riding Instructor

  • Position Overview

    • Support during GallopNYC programmatic and fundraising events

    • Additional tasks as needed

    Qualifications

    • Current PATH Intl. Certification required

    • Teaching experience preferred

Barn Groom

  • Position Overview
    Support the Equine Director, Senior Groom and the horses at the GallopNYC-operated barns by providing high-quality and professional care. Responsible for cleaning stalls, moving horses into and out of turnout, monitoring horse welfare, and helping setup feed and hay daily. Grooms also provide education, training, and supervision to volunteers working in GallopNYC barns.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Monitor horse welfare and alert senior groom and director to lameness, horses not eating or drinking, or any other signs of distress

    • Move horses into and out of turn out

    • Muck stalls and add bedding to stalls

    • Fill, maintain manure container

    • Maintain and clean out water buckets and water troughs

    • Add hay in stalls and in hay nets in turnouts

    • General cleanliness of barns, tack, turnouts, and property including sweeping, raking, mucking, picking up garbage, scrubbing, or any other cleaning task assigned

    • Set up feed and medication for horses as directed by Barn Director

    Qualifications

    • Horse background and “horse sense” required

    • Demonstrated attention to detail

    • Self-starter with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic

    • Willing to learn and be open to suggestions

    • A reliable and responsible team player

    • Ability to pick up and carry 50 lbs

    • Able to complete list of duties in timely manner and without supervision

    • Punctual

    • Feed horses and give medication if and as directed by Barn Director

    • Stock hay and feed in feed room

    • Light maintenance and repairs as necessary

    • Groom and tack horses as directed

    • Teach and supervise volunteers who are there to help with barn work

    • Monitoring visitors on site and directing them to management as necessary

    • All other tasks as required

Site Volunteer Coordinator

  • Position Overview

    The Site Volunteer Coordinator manages and supports volunteers on-site to ensure smooth, safe, and effective lesson delivery. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced barn environment, including training volunteers to work with horses and riders.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Organize and supervise volunteers during riding lessons

    • Train volunteers to safely support horses and riders

    • Recruit, schedule, and manage volunteers to ensure adequate coverage

    • Track attendance and maintain volunteer data

    • Partner with instructors and site staff to meet program needs

    • Address issues professionally to support a safe environment

    Qualifications

    • Experience managing volunteers or teams

    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

    • Customer-service oriented
      Experience with Salesforce or similar systems required

    • Horse experience preferred

Volunteer Manager

  • Position Overview

    The Volunteer Manager leads all volunteer operations at GallopNYC, ensuring strong recruitment, training, and engagement. This role includes managing a team and overseeing volunteers in a busy, on-site lesson environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee volunteer recruitment, training, and retention

    • Manage and support Volunteer Coordinators

    • Ensure volunteers are effectively deployed to support lessons

    • Train volunteers to safely work with horses and riders

    • Oversee scheduling, tracking systems, and documentation

    • Partner across teams to align volunteer support with program needs

    Qualifications

    • 3–5 years managing volunteers or teams

    • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

    • Experience with Salesforce or similar systems required

    • Horse experience required
